Today’s announcement that AbbVie will invest $380 million to build two new active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing facilities at its North Chicago campus marks a significant milestone for U.S. pharmaceutical innovation and domestic manufacturing leadership. The project will incorporate advanced manufacturing technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), to support the production of next-generation neuroscience and obesity medicines. Construction is slated to begin in spring 2026 with both facilities expected to be fully operational in 2029. In support of the expansion, AbbVie plans to hire 300 new employees, including engineers, scientists, manufacturing operators and lab technicians.

Ymer Technology, a manufacturer of electric vehicle (EV) components for the heavy equipment industry, celebrated the grand opening of its new U.S. headquarters in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. This is the first in a series of planned expansions for the company. Ymer Technology’s $5.7 million investment, bolstered by a Reimagining Energy and Vehicles in Illinois (REV Illinois) agreement, will enable it to produce cooling technology and thermal management systems for EVs while supporting Illinois’ booming clean energy economy. REV provides competitive incentives for EV, solar, renewable and energy storage manufacturers to move or expand in Illinois.  Founded in 2005 in Stockholm, Sweden, Ymer Technology chose to relocate from Houston to Lake County to take advantage of Chicagoland’s unmatched location, industry leaders, and the REV incentive program. Shortly after relocating, the company announced that it had already inked its first deal.

We were thrilled to join local leaders at a ribbon cutting to celebrate Medline Industries, LP’s state-of-the-art, 1.4 million sq. ft. distribution facility in Grayslake. It is the largest medical-grade center of its kind in the U.S., and it will handle more than $1 billion in annual orders and create 700 new jobs.
