14.4% of Lake County’s population has an advanced degree (Master’s, Professional or Doctorate Degree), compared with 8.9% nationally. 24% of Lake County’s population has a Bachelor’s Degree, compared with 15.6% nationally.

Lake County has highly rated schools. Students at all grade levels consistently outperform their counterparts throughout the state and nation as measured by standardized tests. There are 18 business- and/or technology-oriented colleges/universities within a 30-mile radius, including 10 in Lake County itself. Among the colleges and universities serving Lake County’s business community are some of the most prestigious universities in the country.

  • College of Lake County
    With nearly 16,000 students, the College of Lake County is a comprehensive community college offering associate degree programs to prepare students for transfer to a four-year college or university or immediate entry into a career. Other offerings include career preparation certificate programs; non-credit personal and vocational enrichment courses; adult basic education, including GED; and contract training and special services for businesses within Lake County. Programs are offered at the Grayslake Campus, Lakeshore Campus (Waukegan), Southlake Educational Center (Vernon Hills) and extension sites throughout Lake County. Along with other organizations, the college was an early advocate for establishing the University Center of Lake County and serves as a feeder college for the center.
    University Center of Lake County
    The University Center of Lake County is an innovative partnership of Illinois public and private colleges and universities bringing a variety of degree programs and coursework to those who live or work in Lake County and surrounding counties. This unique concept of delivering higher education opportunities provides students the ability to complete a degree from one of the Center’s 16 partner schools without leaving Lake County. Students can earn Bachelor Completion Degrees (second two years of a Bachelors’ degree), Master’s Degrees, Certificates and pursue Professional Development Courses in Business, Computer Science/Information Systems, Education, Engineering, Health Care and Nursing, Human Services and Public Administration, Liberal Arts and Sciences, Library and Information Science, Psychology, and Technology.

    The 16 partner schools include: Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Concordia University, DePaul University, Dominican University, Governors State University, Illinois State University, Kendall College, North Park University, Northeastern Illinois University, Northern Illinois University, Roosevelt University, Saint Xavier University, Southern Illinois University (Carbondale) and University of Illinois (Chicago-Springfield-Urbana-Champaign)

    Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science
    Formerly known as Finch University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School. Independent, graduate university focused on medical and health professions. The University consists of The Chicago Medical School, the College of Health Professions, the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine and the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. In addition to the Medical Doctor degree (MD), the university offers a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) as well as BS, MS and/or PhD degrees in Biological and Medical Sciences, Psychology, Physician Assistant, Physical Therapy, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Nutrition and Medical Radiation Physics.
