About Midwest Generation

Midwest Generation, the owner of Waukegan Generating Station, is the largest independent power producer in Illinois. Headquartered in downtown Chicago, the company's primary business is generating electricity for sale in the competitive wholesale market. Waukegan Station is one of six major coal-fired power plants Midwest Gen owns in Illinois. Combined, these plants can generate enough electricity to meet the needs of about 6 million homes.

Located along Lake Michigan, Waukegan Station has 190 employees and was acquired by Midwest Generation in December 1999. In the past five years, the company has spent $70 million on environmental, safety and operational improvements in Waukegan and significantly reduced air emissions at the plant. In December 2006, the company entered into a long-term agreement wth the Illinois EPA for additional emissions reductions. As part of that agreement, Waukegan Station will be one of the first power plants in the country with installation of mercury emission controls, beginning in July 2008.

In addition to Lake County Partners, Midwest Generation supports numerous other local organizations and projects, including the United Way of Lake County, the Genesee Theatre, the Waukegan Hyde Park Elementary School Environmental Fair, the Waukegan Schools Foundation, the Waukegan Park District and the Waukegan Harbor Citizens Advisory Group. The company's community involvement emphasizes educational and environmental groups and causes.

A subsidiary of Edison Mission Group (EMG) of Irvine, California, Midwest Generation operates its Illinois plants from a regional headquarters in Chicago, which also oversees operation of a large coal-fired power plan in western Pennsylvania. EMG is a subsidiary of Edison International (NYSE, EIX), which is based in Rosemead, California.
