To Encourage Illinois Employers to Hire Job Seekers from Eight Target groups listed below.

Authorized by the Small Business Job Protection Act of 1996, the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) program provides employers a federal tax credit as much as $2400 per newly-hired worker from one of eight targeted groups of job seekers. |
| Eligibility: |
WOTC applies to new employees hired that belong to one of the following eight groups:
- Member of a family who received TANF benefits for 9 of the 18 months before the date of hire.
- Youths aged 18-39 from families with Food Stamps
- U.S. Veterans receiving Food Stamps
- Vocational rehabilitation referrals
- 18-24 year-olds living in Enterprise Communities or Empowerment Zones
- Summer employees, 16 or 17 years old, living in one of the same special areas.
- Ex-felons who are hired within one year from date of conviction or date released from prison
- Supplemental Security Income recipients

The Job Center of Lake County is the locally designated federal office for coordinating Work Opportunity Tax Credits. The Job Center of Lake County can provide companies the necessary program information and application forms as well as assistance in determining which employees meet the WOTC criteria. |
